Today, in this country, eating is a behavior that is more psychological than a survival instinct. In addition to the cues that draw us to eat; what, how much and when we eat are determined by our psyche. From the routine mandatory stop at the local specialty coffee shop as we commute to work, to looking at our watch to see if it is time to eat, to basing the sizes of our portions on the surface area of the plate in front of us, it is the patterns of our behavior and not our need to eat that have fueled the epidemic of obesity.
Our clinical psychologist will conduct a thorough evaluation of all of your mental health including identifying the stressors and work or at home that drive you to the pantry or refrigerator. We will help you uncouple the eating from the non-eating activities and target those behaviors that have prevented previous attempts at weight loss from working. Using cognitive and behavioral therapy, we will seamlessly incorporate mental health conditioning into our six-month intensive program. |
